Is newborn photos at home or in studio best for you?

Newborn photography is a once in a lifetime experience for each baby and many parents ask: should we do newborn photos at home or choose a studio newborn session? Both have their perks, but one takes the stress out of the entire process.

newborn photos at home:

I started as a newborn photographer who did in home sessions, so I know the appeal they have for clients. You’re in a familiar place especially after birth, and you’re surrounded by personal touches you may want in your photos. I totally get it!

But what most parents don’t realize is how much work it is to prepare your home for a newborn session.

You might find yourself shoving things into closets at the last minute, trying to declutter your space quickly while running on fumes. (It’s very hard to photoshop things out) The lighting changes from room to room (and hour to hour), which means you may not have the same soft, dreamy quality in my portfolio.

At home sessions can be beautiful, but most of the time they often come with a lot of overwhelm. Then the peaceful newborn session you dreamed of is anything but peaceful.

Newborn photos in studio:

I know the last thing you want to do is make a trip out of the house, but imagine walking in to a calm, cozy space that is fully prepared for you. No cleaning, no setup, no decisions. Just show up, and I’ll take care of the rest.

Everything will be ready when you arrive: dresses pressed for mom, consistent lighting that makes your photos look perfect everytime (all images in this blog are in studio) , soft swaddles, coordinating props and setups around the colors you choose, and a warm space designed just for your baby’s comfort. You can sit and sip your coffee, scroll your phone, or watch me while I work.

We will start with family photos while you’re still fresh, then ease into the baby portion. Got a toddler or sibling in two? No problem! I’ve got snacks, some toys, and tricks up my sleeve from my years of being in a classroom. I will meet them where they are, let them have their space to talk to me (I love it!) and include them. I’m here to make it easy for everyone.

So, What’s best for you?

Remember, there is no wrong choice when it comes to documenting your newborn.

At home sessions sound comfortable, but do have some challenges if you know you’ll be stressed, exhausted, and in a rush to get your house and family photo ready.

In studio is designed to take the weight off your shoulders with everything ready for your arrival, but I also understand getting out the door is hard.

Whichever option you choose, it will be the best one for you!

But if you’re craving peace of mind with zero prep, and want to walk away saying what most of my clients say, “I’m so glad I did that!” come on by! I’d love to have you in for a studio newborn session.
